So John Roberts looked out and saw Antonin Scalia trying to steal his court, and he said, "Not so fast buddy." Or words to that effect. The Chief Justice is, of course, a fully paid up member of the Judicial Right. He subscribed to the ahistorical notion of free speech that spawned Citizens United. He was A-OK with Scalia's appeal to the Sovereignty Movement in his immigration opinion, but not so happy with the Jesuit's potshot at the president's recent executive action. What got under Roberts's skin was the likelihood that a decision overthrowing the ACA would be seen as a pre-emption of congressional power and a direct attack on the executive's right to govern. That would be fine for a Scalia Court, but no good at all for the Roberts Court.
In addition to which, it is entirely possible that John Roberts has a heart. Catholic yes, Jesuit no.

Low Point
I guess I'm not surprised by Scott Walker's win.
I'm more surprised by Bill Clinton once again leading from incurable narcissism.
I think everybody's so depressed by the state of the economy and -- possibly -- by the shallowness of the general culture, that most people have lost any feelings of empathy and are increasingly driven by anger, resentment and hatred.
This can be changed but, right now, it's hard to see how.

FINALLY!!!!
In their 8,020th baseball game, in their 51st season, the New York Mets finally got a no-hitter.
And I didn't see it. Neither did my son, but as soon as the news began to sweep through the Big City, we were on the phone, both of us in tears of joy. For Matt, it's been his whole life, for me it's been from the beginning in 1962, when I watched Marvelous Marv Throneberry from the right field grandstand in the Polo Grounds. He was two when they won it all in '86. We've been to some great games, but lots of disappointment.
I've been through 245 starting pitchers, including Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan and Dwight Gooden. But only Johan Santana has thrown a no-no in a Mets uniform. And he did it tonight.
History. My history. Matt's history. Mets history. New York history. And mostly, of course, Johan Santana's history.
Lets go Mets.

Messianic Mistrial
As I got it, John Edwards said God would now give him a new messianic vocation to save the poor and downtrodden. A megalomaniac douchebag. Who was not acquitted, but did get off. Ever the hotshot lawyer.
