No, No, Rachel
I can no longer listen to Rachel Maddow. She relentlessly attacks O. for being conciliatory. Well, let me tell you, if you keel pushing O. leftward, you are helping the Right. And let me tell you further, I swear to you that this is the kamikaze Right. They will self destruct. Trust me. Watch for the Truth.

Lone Star, Shooting
The advent of Rick Perry is startling. Cable talk hosts have already anointed him as the candidate presumptive; the liberals among them simultaneously dis the prez into early oblivion. This a year before any debates, polls or primaries. Perry has eons to make any number of catastrophic errors. And Obama has time to get himself on track. It's not as if he has an easy path. And liberal shibboleths have the odor of lazy thought.

Don't count out Bachmann
Think 1964. Substitute Michele Bachmann for Barry Goldwater; Tea Party for John Birch; Obama for LBJ. Fluoride for light bulbs. A landslide. Afghanistan. Hold for Nixon. History can repeat itself only to a point. Ho Chi Minh was not a Moslim.

Except Romney, who remains starchy. They voted unanimously against any ever taxes.

Blood on the Water
Headline in tomorrow's paper: A Second Recession Could be Much Worse Than the First.
Today, the article points out, the economy has 5 percent fewer jobs than before the last recession began.
Personal income -- down 4 percent. Industrial production 8 percent. And the economy taken as a whole is smaller.
An economist is quoted by The Times as saying that "there is no approachable precedent, at least in the postwar era, for what happens when an economy with 9 percent unemployment falls back into recession. Except maybe 1937!
The only factor on the other side of the ledger is CORPORATE PROFITS,which are at record highs. But corporations are sitting on all that cash.
Investment, by companies and governments, is in fact the only way out. But, believe me, republicans don't see it that way, so don't hold your breath. We've got to spend our way out of this, which means Obama has to mount the battlements and stay there from now till November next year.

Bad Credit
I've had bad credit a couple of times; it stinks, it makes you nervous, insecure. Now the entire nation must feel that way thanks to S&P. The fact that it may be based on a mistake doesn't really change much. Nor the fact that it's Congress's fault, nor that it's a very small change.
The world's most powerful country is standing on shaky ground, a fact already well-known to the millions of citizens looking for jobs, if they haven't already given up.
No longer Major League nor even Triple-A, and it's past the trading deadline.

Malaise
Watching my Mets getting beat by the Braves at home. 5-game losing streak, not long after registering a 5-game win skein.
It's like watching the economy. A little (very little)hope in this morning's jobs numbers, but by late afternoon, the markets had the blahs, and talk of double dip recession increases.
None of this is any fun.

Plunge

The market lost 512 points today amidst fears of Europan bond hoarding and the after effects of the putrid US debt limit deal, the one where John Boehner says he got 98% of what he wanted, only to to awake today to see his popularity dive with the Wall St index. In fact the polls show Obama making out better than the Republicans.
The numbers will almost certainly ger worse when the jobs figures come out tomorrow.
The supercommittee established by the deal is the opposite of what's called for. We need a jobs program but we won't get one.
Mike Bloomberg is giving a lot of his own money to education and youth programs. Maybe private capital can make a difference wwhen governmant can't or won't.
